Gene Starship works on new HVW8 artwork for Waajeed and Coultrain in the Montreal studio.

Somehow our mural from last year’s adidas house party landed as the background in the Mistah F.A.B’s Hit Me On Twitter Official video. The piece is still standing in downtown L.A.

HVW8’s Gene Starship was responsible for the And 1 mixtape illustrations for the first 5 tapes (1999-2002). The HVW8 Art Installation also went on the tour with the ballers to N. Philly, Chicago South Side, Rucker’s in Harlem and Venice, California, and painted pieces under the net during the games. Some wild times. The first player that we did a lot of artwork for was Rafer “Skip to My Lou” Alston. He even picked up a piece for his place. Good to see Skip to My Lou now in the NBA finals 10 yrs later.

Been working on some stuff for Nas and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.

Check out HVW8 at the beginning of the new adidas House Party Spot, featuring David Beckham, Kevin Garnett, Missy Elliott, Method Mad, RedMan, Young Jeezy, Katy Perry, Pharell, Mark Gonzales and a bunch of others …. with music by pilooski (first dropped by Parra at his HVW8 podcast last year). The mural was done by dstrbo, G. Starship, Jonathan, Alex and Ty G, and it’s Ty G at the beginning of the ad. Here are a few photos from the shoot in Boyle Heights this past August.
