Andrew Meza was instrumental in the development of the recent Charles Munka Exhibition at the HVW8 Art + Design Gallery. Charles Munka is also Art Director for BTS Radio. We’re proud to work with Meza again to record/release this BTS Special Edition of the HVW8 International Podcast.

BTS Radio was created by Andrew Meza at the University of Cal State Fullerton in 2003. What started out as a local college radio show soon became a worldwide movement and culture unique unto itself. Since BTS’ start, Meza has welcomed guests ranging from all music genres and in the process, spearheaded a new movement of electronic/hip-hop producers.

Meza is known as one of the most influential tastemakers/djs, spotlighting underground talent and championing artist such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Blu, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Georgia Anne Muldrow & J*Davey when they were still unsigned names. A modern-day Tropicalista, singer-songwriter Tita Lima was born into a family of musicians (her father was the bass player for 70s rock band Os Mutantes). She paid her dues in Sao Paulo’s musical scene playing bass, singing and sharing the stage with widely-recognized artists such as Bocato (Metalurgia, Elis Regina, Gal Costa, Maria Rita), Joao Donato, Luz de Caroline.

The sultry vocalist’s music has become a favorite among DJs in Brazil, the US and Europe, including Rafael Moraes, Garth Trinidad (KCRW) and Gilles Peterson, who included the song “A Conta Do Samba” in his superb compilation ‘Brownswood Bubblers.’

On Friday 7/2, a packed house at the landmark Hollywood club The Troubadour was treated to an amazing show from Master Blazter, featuring Computer Jay, J1 and D-F. The extra long set included Dam-Funk and Master Blazter originals as well as guest appearances from JimiJames, MC Eiht and Jody Watley. Opening the show were Peanut Butter Wolf, Devonwho and Monalisa. Aloe Blacc and Krondon both made it on stage as well!! If this is the future, we’re ready.

Master Blazter, born at the HVW8 Gallery, performs with Dam-Funk tonight at the Troubadour.

MASTER BLAZTER: BLAZT OFF

BLAZT OFF, a mix by Los Angeles’ own DJ Kutmah, showcases the individual styles of Computer Jay, J1, and D-F. Collectively, they are known as Master Blazter. Individually, each is accomplished in his own right, and as a group, there is no stopping the funk they create.

Computer Jay develops hard hitting tracks built upon moog, rhodes and personally tweaked electro systems.
J1 provides the backbone of rhythm on drums, while equally being comfortable producing quality funk laced beats.
D-F adds his signature vocals and provides layers of deep funk with his own keyboards and keytar.

The countdown has begun….

Three musicians with their own distinctive styles have come together to form Master Blazter. Each individual is an integral part of the whole – each one necessary to keep funk music alive, taking it to unforeseen heights.
